LCI Collections Catalog
Welcome to the LCI Collections Catalog
This database of resource information is primarily designed for LCI
affiliates (Teacher Education Collaborative and Focus Schools participants,
teaching artists, resource coordinators, and librarians) but all are welcome to browse the
resource annotations. If you are looking for the catalog of library resources
housed in the Heckscher Foundation Resource Center, go to
www.lcinstitute.org and click on "LCI
Library Catalog Search."
General Information
For the past several years, our partnering institutions in the Focus
School and Teacher Education Collaboratives have been developing their own
on-site collections of materials and resources called the “LCI Collections.”
These materials are related to the philosophy and practice of aesthetic
education, to the understanding of the arts, and to the specific visual and
performing arts repertory under study each year.
Central to the practice of aesthetic education is the use of all forms of
contextual information to expand the study, awareness, and understanding of
works of art. Each work of art is an inexhaustible resource for inquiry
and research. To live within the world of the work of art means to explore the
possibilities seen in the work; to learn from and about that work; to
understand the work and its cultural, social, and political background better. We
enter this world by defining pathways or ways of looking at the work of
art—along which multiple meanings can be constructed and shared by the
learners. Resources of contextual information contribute greatly to this process of discovery.
Each year we assemble an annotated online catalog of resource materials that might
enable this process, indexed according to how each item relates to the Lincoln
Center Institute work in our Focus School and Teacher Education
Collaboratives.
This system is designed to help the educators and LCI teaching artists who
work in these collaboratives to easily identify and locate available resource
items as they work together with students during the school year. Librarians
and resource coordinators will use this catalog to place their annual LCI
Collections resources orders. Educators and teaching artists will use it to
find out what materials are available at the institution where they are
working. We hope that it will also serve as a helpful source of information for
all individuals not associated with LCI, who have an interest in aesthetic education.
Using the LCI Collections Catalog
The catalog is organized according to various headings related to works
of art under study, different arts disciplines, or the philosophy and practice of aesthetic education.
If you check the right-hand column of the search screen page, you will see
underlined links that will directly capture materials according to specific
categories. You may also customize your search by using one or more of the
fields in the center of the screen or on the advanced search screen page.
- Members of the general public may use the system by returning to the search
